It’s St. Patrick’s Day! My heritage is Scots-Irish so I feel like celebrating today!
I’ll be wearing the brightest green top I own and making a bit of Irish Stew, with lamb stew meat if I can find it! I’ll stop at the Guinness, however, not my favorite brew….I might try Harp’s instead! Irish Soda Bread, Cabbage with bacon…these are the traditional foods being served across the great pond in the Motherland.
But the story of St. Patrick is a wee bit different from what you might have heard. He was known to have brought the Christian faith to Ireland in the fourth century.
He used the three leaf clover to explain the Trinity to his followers. The color originally given to represent this saint was blue, but his use of the clover quickly turned that to a rich shade of green.
Green is a color that also means Spring. You’ll see it bursting out in the fashion world this year from clothing to accessories.
I draw the line at green beer…..I prefer to eat fresh greens rather than drink beer that is tinted to the color of the day!
Savannah is going all out, as usual, with their annual celebration of this Irish Saint.
New York as well. Oh how I remember working in the heart of Manhattan and trying to make my way home amid the rowdy crowds lining 5th Avenue! Not an experience for the faint of heart!
Where ever you are and what ever your heritage this is a day of fun celebration so…….Erin Go Bragh!
