It’s Mother’s Day. I can’t think of a better song than Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” to express what a mother truly is. We’re cooking, celebrating and being together on this special day with family. I wish all mother’s a very special day!

My friend, Holly, is half Cherokee Indian. I have learned many things from her about the Cherokee, their beliefs and history that always intrigue me. She shared the Cherokee Morning Song with me one day last spring when we traveled together to a writer’s conference in Alabama. The haunting sound is so beautiful and the words, when translated, so simple. “A we n'” (I am), “de” (of), “Yauh” –the– (Great Spirit), “Ho” (it is so)….I AM of the Great Spirit, it is so. This tribe has so much history all over our area, their imprint can never be forgotten and one day, I hope to go with Holly to her people’s land in North Carolina. In the meantime I find myself humming this tune in the mornings as my day gets going. It gives me a sense of peace…..and that is what I wish for you today! Peace to all!

I love the music of Judy Collins. I’m sharing a video of a performance she did at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The song is entitled “Open The Door”. I chose this song because it speaks to me of the many, many amazing friends I have made since I began writing The Permanent Tourist. I am so very grateful for all of you! Some of you I only know on-line but many of you I get to see eye to eye and heart to heart. What a gift writing this blog has been for me. I am blessed to offer my writing to you each and every day! Have a wonderful Sunday and open the door to whatever joy and adventure comes your way today!
Simple Sundays
The past week has been a mixed bag of joy and sorrow. The sudden loss of a loved one, not mine but a friend’s. The final galley’s for the Emmeline book going to the printer and other things have caused moments of tears and moments of celebration. The more I mature the more I clearly see the circle of life. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense when a life is cut short so unexpectedly, but the circle is clear. Just as the news of a passing comes more news of a birth is welcomed. The message is, in my mind, that life does not come with a guarantee. It is so very important to live each and every moment. Don’t wait to do the things you dream of….GET OUT AND LIVE! If you feel yourself feeling a bit of “ennui” or you are bored, jump start your energy and get outside in nature. Nothing will clear negative energy like taking a long walk or bike ride….or my personal favorite, gardening! I chose this song to share with you today because I love it and because it reminds us that we are surrounded by angels who watch over and love us. I believe it to be true and nothing will ever change my mind! Have a glorious Sunday!

A dear friend of mine gave me a DVD for my birthday. I love it! It is Disney’s “Tangled”. At first I wondered….why?….then I watched it. LOVE…at first viewing. The story is charming and the lessons so true about healing and unconditional love. When Rapunzel’s hair lights up as she sings her healing song amazing things happen. The movie reminded me of my love for the old Disney movies from my childhood. In keeping with my promise to continue allowing my inner child to express joy and creativity I am sharing the lovely song “When You Wish Upon A Star” sung by the character Jiminy Cricket in one of my favorite Disney movies…”Pinnochio”. I hope you’ll enjoy listening and then consider how you can allow your inner child to be joyful and happy! Have a wonderful Sunday…hope to see you at A Taste Of Glynn this evening!
