I found this lovely piece on YouTube.  “Sunlight Filtering Through The Trees” by Masaji Watanabe.  Simple and calming I felt it was the perfect music for today.  I’ll be talking about the weather and flooding we’ve experienced on Tuesday.  Thank God we are safe and sound where we live.  Those surrounding us have not been so lucky.  Have a wonderful, peaceful Sunday and always say Thank You!

This beautiful piece of music composed by Ludovico Einaudi seems perfect for today.  “Primavera”….in the style of springtime.  March is here and, at least, in the South buds are showing everywhere with Red Bud trees popping and wild Honeysuckle vines draping the trees.  This is a time of renewal and refreshment.  Come together with those you love and spend the day rejoicing in the coming of Spring!

I’m sharing a beautiful video with you today, “L’air Du Soir” by Andre Gagnon.  It’s been quite a week in Louisiana.  The storm that blew through on Tuesday had us literally battening down the hatches and securing anything a tornado might pick up and turn into debris.  Miss Sky organized an interior room in our home so we could be safe and sound if need be.  Alarms sounded through the day and into the evening on our iPhones.  We ended up not needing to take shelter but we WERE prepared.  There was destruction elsewhere and not so far from here.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost property and, sadly, loved ones.  Mother Nature can possess a fury that always reminds me there is something so much greater than we are.  When the winds pick up to 80 miles per hour one suddenly feels very vulnerable and miniscule in the scheme of things!

I hope you’ll take a moment to relax and listen to this beautiful piece.  Have a wonderful day, love the ones you’re with and be thankful…..always be thankful!

I am in love with the piece I am featuring today!  The rolling simplicity of the music is so masterfully played.  This piece, The Dragonfly’s First Dawn by William Zeitler, makes my heart sing with happiness.  I love dragonfly’s with their delicate wings and brilliant irridescent color.  They are one of nature’s most beautiful creatures.  They fly in spirals separately and together, riding the currents of the wind.  Imagine the excitement of one of these lovely beings experiencing their first flight at dawn!  Magic!

Wishing all of my readers an especially excellent Sunday!  We’re having the most glorious Spring weather here!  Take a deep breath, let it out and think of yourself soaring through the sky, weightless and not a care in the world.  Oh happy day!

Simple Sundays

I came across this video of The Piano Guys playing Christina Perri’s song, A Thousand Years.  It fits how I’m feeling today.  Uplifted after Mardi Gras and filled with love for my life and this special season.  I attended my first Ash Wednesday service at Christ Church in Covington, LA with my family.  The minister spoke about Lent and how it is a time to go deeper, to live more fully.  To me that includes letting go of the past, of regrets, lost dreams and hopes and focusing on the now!  This is what we have…this moment….right now!  Instead of giving up something for Lent I am adding something, a sort of gift to myself.  I am devoting time each day to meditation, deep breathing and letting go.  It is essential to my well being.  And I am loving myself a little more each day.  Some folks might think that is egotistical on my part but it is anything but that.  My life is filled with caregiving these days as my elderly parents live with me and Mr. T has been battling cancer once again.  Time for myself has become essential and I am not good at it.  So as this sacred season begins I’m finding that quiet space, filling it with silence and finding peace and love for all.  Have a wonderful Sunday!  OH….and Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!

I’m sharing a different sort of video with you today.  I find it hauntingly beautiful.  My daughter sent it to me to listen to and I was captured by the harmony.  It isn’t what you think.  It sounds like a hymn but it is a song written to represent the time Vienna Teng spent working in the computer world.  Listen to the words and make your own decision.  I think it is so well done but when you hear the lyrics you wonder…….is she comparing life with computers to the power of God?  That’s pretty controversial but something to ponder.  We’re heading to New Orleans for the next few days….it’s only twenty minutes away over the causeway but we’re going to celebrate Mardi Gras and it is so much fun! Wishing you all the most wonderful Sunday and send me a comment on the music!

Simple Sundays

I have been writing this blog for over three years as of February 2016!  How my life has changed in that time.  I am now living in the New Orleans area learning about the rich history, music, traditions and FOOD!  I am attending my first Mardi Gras ever beginning this weekend.  What fun!!!  We are surrounded by the music, dancing and PARADES as this annual celebration gets underway.  I normally offer quieter music on a Sunday morning but I couldn’t help myself in wanting to share a bit of what we are hearing and seeing!  I think you’ll love Harry Connick Jr. and his video of “Mardi Gras in New Orleans”!  Have a great day…..have FUN!  I know I will be, right there on St. Charles Avenue!  I’ll share the experience so you have an idea of what it’s like if you have never been here.  Life is good!

It’s Carnival time here in Louisiana!  No post holiday blues here as the colors of Mardi Gras begin to appear everywhere and King’s Cake is the order of the day.  I’m sharing a bit of local culture today with this video “The Avenue” by the New Orleans band, Cowboy Mouth.  Parties, parades and plenty of fun fill each day as we build toward Mardi Gras in February!  Have a peaceful Sunday and enjoy!

On this third day of the new year I felt it appropriate to share a lovely video of an Irish Blessing.  This was shared by the minister at Christ Church in Covington, Louisiana where we are beginning to attend services.  I felt the poem spoke to what we all hope for in the new year.  No one does a blessing quite like the Irish!  I’m wishing all of you good health, abundance, happiness and love in 2016!

Simple Sundays

After a particularly stressful week we celebrated a beautiful Christmas.  We decided not to emphasize gifts this year but to give of ourselves to each other.  My father’s illness and subsequent hospital stay left us all tired and unsure about what is to come.  But do we ever really know what is next in our lives?  I think this is one of, if not the  most, touching Christmas’ I have ever experienced.  My father was able to come home on Wednesday afternoon.  We prepared a small meal for Christmas Eve dinner and played carols and other favorite holiday music.  Dad was very weak but managed to disappear into his office to find four greeting cards from the collection he always keeps in his desk drawer.  He can barely write and his eyesight is failing, but he carefully selected a card for my mom, daughter, Mr. T and myself that he felt spoke to his love for us.  It took him almost three hours to write the short sentiments.  I will treasure the card he gave me forever.  Dad has always prided himself on beautiful handwriting, he can no longer handle a pen or pencil in a way that satifies him but that didn’t stop him from expressing his love as best he could.  When I opened my card, along with the printed greeting, were the simple words “to my beautiful, precious daughter, I love you, dad.”.  I’ll keep this card always, treasuring my dad and always remembering this very special Christmas.

I chose the video I’m featuring today as a result of attending the Christmas concert at Christ Church in Covington last Sunday evening.  “As A Bridegroom To His Chosen” by John Rutter.  The Louisiana Brass quintet played an instrumental arrangement of this that I loved.  I couldn’t find one that did not include the choir and lyrics but I think this recording is quite lovely.  I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Treasure this day and those you love.  We’re about to have the beginning of a new year filled with bright promise and opportunity.  You might want to make a list of the things you’d like to release and then burn it in a safe way, offering it to the powers that be in gesture of letting go of the past.  No new year’s resolutions for me any longer.  I only pray for peace, good health and abundance for all as 2016 nears.  Be safe….be happy…..be loved!
